I am in the middle of installing my 4.5 lift kit and have put my front shocks in to finish up the work that I have done on the front but cannot tighten the shocks at the top inside the engine bay at the mounts because when I try to tighten the top of the shock just spins round and round... Driving me nuts!
I know there is an easy solution but its 2:30 am and I cant think of nothing!
PLEASE HELP... I will be waiting thanks
Im currently jacked up and no tires by the way

It may not be the correct way but since I bumpstopped mine and have no fear of ever bottoming a shock out I grabbed the shiny part of the shaft with vise grips at the highest point. I did put a rag around it when I did it and it didn't seem to leave any marks. You are suppose to use a box wrench or open end wrench on the nut and a smaller one on top to hold the shaft from turning but there wasn't enough room on the driver side for me to do it... Good luck with it...

use something quick like an air or electric impact. or go with the vise grips. the shock doesn't go all the way in to that point.
but when i removed a skyjacker shock off my tj, the rod fell out and was threaded on the end and wouldn't thread back in. so you probably don't want to turn it too many times.

pair of vise grips worked fine for me...wrapped a piece of rubber around it, i think i used a balloon actually for added grip and had one on the top tighten while i made sure i got a grip on it

Use an impact but just be careful how much you put the nut down. It won't spin on you using an impact. Or vise grips if you wanna dick up your cylinder shaft. Not advisable but go for it lol.

The Vise grips worked on top except I had to re-thread the passenger side top of shock because it got stripped a bit... haha whoops!
All done now tho and looks damn good
