Default please help!! 4x4 lever its completely loose

So I picked up a 96 cherokee classic about a week ago it was sitting for a couple months in a muddy spot I couldn't get out with just 2wd so I put it in 4hi and it pulls out no problem I take it out of 4hi and all is well. I used 4hi a couple times just to check it but I could not get into 4 low. So I pulled kinda fast and it finally popped in I drove forward maybe 100 feet and it popped out now the 4x4 lever is loose it will not select 4hi or 4lo. There is no tension on the lever at all I can pot it in 4hi or 4lo and it just stays in 2wd is this the notorious linkage pin problem or did I seriously damage something?

It's easier and more comfortable to just sit in the seat and pull on the lever. Besides there might be a spider or sumthin' down there!

OP, do some noggin pokin. You probably fudged the linkage up. Put some cardboard under there so the spiders have to get around it

I'm an artist and I fully admit I'm a bit cocky.
I'll believe the forecast for 12"+ snow here when it's on the ground. I may even post some pics/vid.

When people are humble and open to criticism there's no reason not to help. But some people have thin skin and think they are being bullied. Those people we turn away from. And to add, I've seen other car forum and yea people are the biggest dicks

Yes I'm completely the same way. I'm very well knowledged around Chrysler 2.4 platforms sentras and 3800 series platforms. I've owned and learned their little quirks I try to n help out as much as I can . people think we think they are stupid or something when I'm merely giving you information you can either take it out leave it I can care less. That being said if any one needs help in these areas let me know I will gladly help!!
