I am a proud new owner of a 98' XJ. I am not sure if this is stock or something the previous owner installed but their is an Aux cord coming out from under the drivers side of the center console. I plugged my Iphone in but couldn't figure out how to get the music to come out of the stereo. It does have the stock radio and as far as I know everything else concerning the radio works. Any Idea's?

P.S. If this is in the wrong section I'm sorry, I was kinda confused on where this belongs.

Look for an aux button. Or menu, or something to turn aux on.

Depending on the radio, there are adapter kits available to input a remote signal.

I agree that cord looks like something else someone had put in.

Factory radio does not have an aux input. My guess would be that the PO had an aftermarket head unit that had a rear aux input and used that to run his iPod to it. Pretty easy set up.

That could be hooked up through an FM modulator at the back of the radio, you may have to tune in a certain FM channel in order to hear the signal from the ipod. Start at the lowest station number with the iphone playing and keep moving up the dial until you hear the iphone signal coming through.

Ok I tried this today and it was a no go. I'm starting to believe there used to be an aftermarket radio in there. Thanks for all the quick replies.

Busted back is right.. If the stereo plays fm radio stations( and you can hear em) then an fm transmitter will work.

Forget a transmitter. Get a mp3 3.5mm jack to cassette converter. I found one at walmart for 4$. It was GE Phillips. Found it between the checkout lanes on the side. They wanted 20$ for one from the electronic section. The Phillips one sounds excellent and has worked for the whole month I have had it.

X2. I have had the best success with the cassette option. The fm transmitters just aren't very clear.

iPods have a 3.5 jack?

Anyway, the dash is bezel really easy to remove, just 4 screws and a slight tug at the corners and middle. Pull it, and look where the cable goes.
