I need a cheap easy fix, i was thinking of drilling out and using the ubolt style u-joint straps to pinch it down till i can aford a new yoke and seal kit. Has anyone done this as a temp fix and how safe is it, can i drive about an hour away to my dads shop to fix it right?

My son try to repair one like that and within 50 miles the cap fell off and the drive shaft came apart and destroyed the output shaft. Yokes are not that much at the jy,maybe $10,I paid $30 for a new one.
