So I have no idea what could be happening but I was checking hoses and connections and I noticed that when I took the vacuum line that goes from the charcoal canister to the intake off, the jeep runs better. I have been having issues starting the jeep to the point where it will die a few times before it stays running. Once it warms up it runs ok. Any ideas of what to look for? 92 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 H.O 4wd

what are the poor running symptom(s) that removal,of that hose resolved?

So you created an intake leak in effect with the hose removed. Id expect the jeep to idle faster with that hose removed, as you are letting more air into the system. But that may mask the actual problem.

Time for a general engine health check...
1.. a manifold vacuum test should be done. that gage is cheap and easy to use. this can help pin point timing issues, intake leaks, valve problems, etc....
2. a compression test can be run tomake sure that part is good too, an easy to do test, the tool is cheap
3. a leakdown test is a bit more complicated, requires an air compressor, but it can help pinpoint problems revealed in the compression test.
for tests 2 and 3 the spark plugs need be removed. then will be a good time to examine the six plugs, see if any look funky, which can pinpoint a bad cylinder.
when plugs out, run an ohm test on all seven spark wires if so equiped, also ohm out the cap and rotor, check for wear. later xj dont have this system.
if all above is good, you can also ohm or volt test the various sensors on motor... Manifold pressure sensor, temperature sensors (air and water temps) etc....
good luck
