Default Passenger side window control issue

Having fun tracking down some issues with my 2001 Jeep Cherokee xj windows and lock controls. To better understand what I HAVE done, here is the history.

Driver side and passenger side window and lock controls started developing issues. First, noticed my passenger side window would not work for passenger. Driver side control of that window works fine so not a motor issue obviously. Then the locking controls started having some issues. Locks worked intermittently and even started locking and unlocking by themselves while driving. My initial guess was a short somewhere. This last issue started shortly after replacing my rear hatch but put in my original hatch lock and wiring. Worried that I didn’t run the electrical lines properly or someway didn’t firmly connect them. Felt pretty certain I did though. Then my driver’s side window stopped working! That got me off my butt and decided I’d start by checking out the driver side control and connections first.

Carefully took the driver side door panel off, unclipped the control connectors and cleaned. Driver side window immediately started working so probably just a loose or dirty connector.

Next, did the same to passenger side door. While starting to take the two connectors off that control piece, doors started locking and unlocking. Definitely an issue with that controller. So ordered another controller from Switch Doctor and installed. Door lock issue seems to be solved BUT window will still not go up and down from the passenger side switch! Driver’s side control for that window still works fine. Just checked all other window controls and they don’t work either. Tried child lock on ( in position of driver controls? ) and off ( up? ) with no difference.

So, after all this, my thought is maybe my child lock button on the driver side controller is bad??? Is there a fuse for just that operation I don’t know about? I wouldn’t think so.

Sorry for this long post but thought someone else might have had a similar issue. If the majority think it’s a bad child lock causing this, guess I need to change out the main controller as well. But does this child lock also disable BOTH the passenger side door lock switch ( back doors are manual ) AND all window switches???

Let me add one more question while I’m at it since it’s related. Do these 2001 xj’s have an automatic unlock function when you turn ignition off like many cars do? Never thought about it until all this started happening and I’ve had this jeep since 2003.

Thanks

Nevermind read it wrong my reply was about windows locks. Anyway just a fyi...my 2001 XJ doors wont lock with the switch IF key is in the ignition switch.

Glad I don’t have that issue. Sounds more serious.
I found a YouTube video showing how to get into the control box below switches for windows and lock to solder broken links. In fact guy discusses the often issue with most is that child lock. Decided I’d rather spend $20 with switch doctor again and order a totally new controller. If that still doesn’t solve issue, I’ll dig into the wiring running through door to body. That door speaker is out anyway. And figure issue is a broken speaker wire there.

Now I have re-solder mine before due to issues, along with the broken wires in the door opening and also jumping the child lock witch out (think the child lock is for windows locks). Also my statement about the key in ignition and doors not locking it;s the way its suppose to function i never knew that until recently..

I'm not crazy about the knock-off switch controllers. For instance, the PCB in the main controller was in 2 parts, and between motion and poor technique broke the solder joints in short order:

IIWY I'd take the main controller apart and look for broken joints (I ended up going to back to my original driver's side controller after resoldering a bunch of joints). If you saved the old passenger side see if that can't be repaired.

Is this from Switch Doctor? They have a lifetime warranty. I’m saving the original and will see how long theirs lasts.

Don't recall who I got it from.

OTOH, certainly can't argue about the price. The only thing cheaper is if you simply need to touch up a broken solder joint.

Will tell you this...IF you EVER remove both drivers and passenger side to re-solder or whatever do NOT get them mix up as they will plug into either side and things will start to get hot and smokey! LOL yup I did it! Was doing a test did not notice I had drivers side in my hand and went to plug it in on passenger side loose just hanging by the wires to test it and the rest was history.
