part time light intermittently flashes in 4x4?
Hey Guys,
We've been getting some pretty ugly weather up here... got about 8inches of snow in 12 hours.
Just had a question about my part-time 4x4 in my Jeep XJ I6 AW4 231J transfercase.
question is, why when im engaged in 4HI does my part time indictor light flash when im driving in 4HI?
is it supposed to flash in 4HI or stay solid?
Vehicle engages and disengages 4Hi no problem. just curious about the flashing.

Part Time lamp should stay solid on. If you have the front axle disconnect (91 and earlier IIRC), could be intermittent switch or wires at the vacuum motor on the front axle or vacuum motor failing and not fully engaging.

If it is vacuum disco there is a vacuum switch on the passenger side low and near the firewall under the hood. 99% this is ur problem. Check for vacuum at the line (in 4wd). If vacuum is present and steady replace the switch.

Hey Slick! long time, no see! At times my vacuum has been so low it wouldn't activate the switch Slick is referring to. I think that was a bad lower injector O ring, for me.

It has been a while. I'm just starting to work on the old girl again. I commuting 65 miles a day in my Cherokee so you know things are wearing. I'm starting to re do the interior. I just figured I would come back on here. To op if you Disconnects the vacuuming switch it is possible to put a switch in where the shifter is if you really need that light. Sometimes it is nice, I have a mud hole I go to where I switch between 4hi and 2 and one time I forgot to put it back in two and went driving down the road in 4. One one of these days ill put a switch it. I changed my front axle to a d30 with no cad and 760x u joints... Much stronger if u want to go with the junkyard approach. Good luck
