Just wanted to tell everyone with black, err faded flares lol....I used rustoleum "paint for plastic" rattle can. You can find it at Autozone, here is a pic. I didn't take before pics, but look at the body trim strip and you'll get an idea of how faded the rest of the plastics were. This stuff works great, dry to the touch in about 20 min and doesn't scratch, all I did was roughen up the plastics with a 3m pad, wash them down, and rinsed. No primer needed .

I used duplicolor trim paint, well first i tried that mothers back to black and it failed after two weeks of hot sun. Duplicolor has a bad rap but i think its because it comes out so slow and thin. Honestly ive had the most luck with rustolum. by-the-way Slick looking rig man

hey you get vib's? or did you sye?

Thanks man...I am at 5.5" up front and 4.5" out back, all I have is a tcase drop. I get very very little to zero vibes. My vibes are up front, my pinion isn't adjusted correctly.

Awesome, I hate to see XJs with faded plastic. It is an easy fix. I used duplicolor black bumper paint on my wife's 01 just before we sold it. Worked well and looked brand new.

Nice Job

Looks nice man. I originally used Krylon Fusion on the bumper caps and trim but it started chipping away after a few months.(as you can see in many of my pics) Guess it couldn't handle the NC sun or something. Hope you have better luck with yours.

Thanks! It was made by detours USA (detours), he is also here on CF too. I don't know if he makes them anymore. I got them from a boss who owed me money a few years ago.

My 2000 is green and all the parts I buy, I make sure to get black and it looks sick. This my friend, is the best I've seen and I'm doing it to my flares as well. Mine are trimmed and black will make them even more bad *** lol. Thanks for the idea ( and letting me steal it)

Thanks!!! I'm finding out that more black on my color xj looks better than chromes and polished. Glad I could be of some help! Steal away!

Question tho, did you just paint over the old paint directly or did you scrub it a little

I used a 3m pad just to get the surface grime off. I lost my flares on the trail, the replacement fronts were already black from another xj, but the rears are still my original, color matched flares. I did the same 3m pad to the rear to scuff the clear coat...worked great.

With the duplicolor bumper paint. I wiped them down with some window cleaner and then painted. No scuffing. Masked them up with painters tape and plastic. A couple of light coats and good as new.
