PAINT
So my jeep was oringially all silver.
At some point someone painted about halfway down the side panels/doors red... it looked really good for about the last year as long as Ive owned it.
Now some of that paint, especially ont he aftermarket fender flares is peeling.. Some spots are also scratched and beginning to rust and one rocker panel has a quarter sized hoel fo rust.
I plan on patching the rust... How should I paint the rest of the jeep? I intend on repainting the red again... probably either red or orange??
Any advice?
WHAT KIND OF PAINT SHOULD I USE? SHOULD I JUST SAND THE SMALL RUST SPECKLES DOWN THEN REPAINT OVER THE OLD RED PAINT?? thanks
BTW.. Ill put photos up soon! Before... and after..

The spot of rust can be seen on the rocker under the passenger back door. the white, dirt appearing stuff ont he flares is actually where the paint is peeled. the door is missing some paint as well. And its gotten worse since this photo was taken.

i would sand it lightly to rough it up (dont bother taking it to bare metal) POR-15 and patch any rust holes then either rattle can it with good spray paint or do what i did and get a gallon of rustoleum and a roller lol

If you just paint over the existing paint you're going to end up in this situation again in another year. Might as well do it right the first time and take it right down to metal, prime, and paint. It won't last very long if you don't.

go to home depot(or shermin williams) and get yourself a hvlp spray gun. i bought mine on sale for 35 bucks. sand it, prime it, paint it, clear coat it. it will take you a while and looks like a giant terd after the sanding( mine was my dd so had to drive it around like that) and take your time. painting is really fun and a great way to get together with some buddies and mess with your jeep. make sure you wear a mask or you will sneeze what ever color you paint for weeks lol.

true, imagine what those guys are doin who sniff spray paint. ugh. but the rattle can isnt a bad option either. i have been using X-O RUST. they have a paint and primer in one. its really nice. i painted my rims, rocker, roof bars, bumpers and no chipping yet. and its got that huge flat top so your not pushing on that little spray top all day and have a little dot on your index for days.

No kidding. Huffers aren't bright to begin with, yet they still insist on killing more brain cells. More power to 'em, as long as they don't breed...
Agreed. It can go both ways, though. If you half-*** it and don't do your homework/prep, it can come out looking like complete crap. If you put the time and effort in, it can turn out just as nice as any factory paint. I'd like to think I'm somewhere in between. Not perfect, but not gonna come apart in a year. [crosses fingers]
