Cleaned that connecter with a tiny scraper and sprayed it out with CRC electrical cleaner. No CEL now. Of course, I have not driven it, just started it up in the driveway.

So far, so good. Had the need to make a 75 mile round trip (mostly rural highway) this evening. The XJ made the trip without a grumble or a CEL! Torque converter lockup was ordinary....running approx. 2K rpms and turning just over 60mph.

Will have to see how long this "fix" lasts! Can you tell I am not convinced??

Added another 20 to 30 miles on the XJ since the last trip, still no problems with the torque converter lockup or a CEL. Must be living right!

Which connector did you clean with the CRC electrical cleaner? And how’s it holding up today?

The transmission electrical connector is on the passenger side at the rear of the engine. It worked for a while, then the code would come back I have worked on other areas (grounds) and now all is good. (It might also to do with trans temp) as long as its cool/colder outside and the engine does not run at 210 degrees, it doesn't come on at all. Either that or the grounds work paid off!

Overall, I think we have to pay attention to the grounds, electrical connectors and keep it on the cooler side of things and the dang CEL won't come on. My CEL would come on without the engine being started all it took was to move the switch to the position before it engaged the starter (run?) and it would register a CEL. For that reason, I didn't think it had anything to do with the solenoids, but was in the electrical system. Sounds confusing? Its a XJ!

After I tore apart my NSS switch and cleaned it, my CEL P0740 codes stopped showing up for a few weeks. However it eventually came back. I have determined that my NSS is not clocked correctly. I just shift between drive and neutral a few times and my torque converter will lock up again. Does it every few weeks.

I also discovered my over heating issue was caused by a kinked transmission fluid line. The little one that goes into the radiator. It was bend 90 degrees. Noticed it when I was putting in a new radiator. After that fix, I haven't had any more temp problems.

I know this is an older thread, but I think my account may be too new to send private messages.

I just posted about my Jeep here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/p0...2/#post3702946

I was wondering if your P0740 issues stayed resolved or what ever came of it. Thanks!
