P0705 Code - Changed NSS... Still Have Code
All,
I have a 1999 XJ 4.0 i6.
My current goal for the vehicle is to pass MD State Emissions Inspection. In MD, you fail for any faults the diagnostic machine kicks up.
Check engine light has been on since I purchased the vehicle.
Airbag Light was on. Changed the Clock Spring... air bag light no longer on.
I had O2 faults. Changed the sensors. No more O2 Sensor faults.
I had P0705 Code. Changed the NSS... CHECK ENGINE IS NOW OFF.... but P0705 fault still pops up on diagnostic. XJ starts in PARK and NEUTRAL but not any of the other transmission settings.
Does this fault reset over time? Or is there a current fault I should still be concerned about.
Thanks
Russ

I had a problem similar to yours. I have a 98 XJ that decided it didn't want to start anymore, CEL on. I have AAA so they towed it to my house, I plugged the scanner in, and I had a P0700 and a P0705. I tried to clean the NSS, but the plastic broke, so I bought a new one, plugged it in, cleared the ECU, and everything was OK for a few miles. The CEL came back on though, the tranny kicked itself outta overdrive, but the torque converter was still locked up. Pulled over, plugged the scanner in, and gotta P0705 code. I cleared the codes, but it came back a few miles later. Pulled over, cleared the codes. Had to do this a few times before the computer realized that there wasn't anything wrong, so it just decided to work. Here I am a few thousand miles later and I haven't seen that code since, but I have the OBD II reader plugged in just in case...
You can get a good diagnostic tool for pretty cheap off of Amazon. It only works with Android devices, however.

Thanks all. The car only starts in N and P (not other gears) and my reverse lights are working. I am going to have a mech reset, and see if it comes back up. If not I will investigate possible electrical. Appreciate the input.
