Default Changed O2's and NSS - Still have codes

All,

I installed the following:

1 Upstream O2 Sensor
1 Downstream O2 Sensor
1 New Neutral Safety Switch
Completed Install today,

Took Vic to Advanced Auto for a new scan. Here are the codes that hit:

P1899 Park/ NSS Stuck in park or gear
P0132 O2 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
P0138 O2 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit (PRNDL Input)
P0135 O2 Heater Circuit (bank 1, Sensor 1)
P0141 O2 Heater Circuit (bank 1, sensor 2)

Thoughts?

Check the wiring to the new O2 sensors for continuity/discontinuity. I have heard about bad O2 sensors and particular brands working better than others. I have no experience with it.
Many re-build the neutral safety switches. Have you checked the linkages and the universal joints and drive shafts thru the gear shifter to the ends of almost takeoff?

Job #1. The oxygen sensor heater circuit is FUSED.

It is located in the PDC (power distribution center), black box under the hood. Can't recall the exact location but I believe it is a 15 amp "mini-fuse".

You gotta start there.

With new oxygen sensors and codes with the word "heater" in them for both oxygen sensors, historically I have found this is likely the blown heater circuit fuse.

Good luck; keep us updated!

I'm a total newb.... But seems like I should have someone just clear the codes.... then drive around for a bit.

You could try that. But why not check that fuse? Takes all of 5 minutes of your time.

Trust me on this one. I have discovered a faulty heater circuit fuse with your exact same "oxygen sensor heater codes" more times than I can remember.

I will absolutely investigate the fuses. Where can I find an online schematic of the fuse box for 1999 Sport?

I'll bet you tightened down the nut on the shaft adjustment first and then tightened the adjustment bolt that holds it from rotating. That will cause it to bind. You need to fix that as the sideways pressure on the shaft will eventually destroy the new NSS. Try loosening the nut on the end of the shaft and give the NSS a tap inwards, and run the shifter back-n-forth a few times. If that doesn't help, you might need to remove the NSS again and lightly grease the end of the shaft so it will slide easily into the right place. As others mentioned, in hindsight, the NSS is fairly easy to clean and refurbish.

Also, I assume you know about adjusting the NSS? Shifter in reverse and rotate back and forth while watching the reverse lights (mirror or helper) and center it in the range the backup lights are on.

I did this! So I should loosen the adjuster bolt ... then loosen the shaft tightener... then tighten the adjuster bolt... them tighten the shaft adjuster?

Please confirm

Yes. What happens is the bolt off on the side pulls the NSS up snug against the case. You can probably just loosen the nut on the shaft to get it to move inward a bit.

check cruiser54 page, he has the manuals

but you dont need one for this...just test both sides of EVERY FUSE with a test light, any new XJ owner should do this..there is a fuse box under dash too

replace all blown fuses

takes 10min

This thread (link below) has I believe what is the correct diagram for the fuses and relays in the Power Distribution Center for your vintage. Again, it's a 15 amp mini fuse that you should concentrate on unless somebody put a different fuse in that slot. Check all the mini fuses.
