Default Oxygen Sensor bank 1 sensor 1

Hey everyone,

I am looking for bank 1 sensor 1 in a 1996 4.0. Is there just one sensor before the cat and one after or is there still two before? Maybe a picture or diagram would really help. Thanks in advance!

Yes Sir, Unless you have the Calif. emissions then you have a total of four o2 sensors.

I thought only the 2000-2001 models had 4?

Thanks! Any tips on getting the old one off? Penetrating oil? Impact driver?

Start up the jeep and let it run awhile, long enough for the exhaust to get hot, then crack that sucker with a 7/8" box-end wrench. Might take some elbow grease.

O'reilly and Advance auto parts rents the special sockets to remove/install O2S's.

Default When you buy that O2 sensor...

Your auto parts supplier may have more than one sensor for that model year - an NGK or Bosch. Go with the NGK...it's the OEM replacement. I put a couple of Bosch in my 96 and within a month the engine was running like crap after it warmed up. Long story short, the NGK's fixed the problem and I have been fine for 2 years so far. I've read in older threads on this forum that the NGK's are preferred.

Also, you can get them for a much cheaper price on RockAuto.com. Saved me a bunch of money.

Damn California. That's a state I'll never live in.
