Ok, newbie here, putting in my two cents. When you changed the thermostat the first time, did you burp the system? Often after cooling component change, air pockets are created. Air pockets prevent flow! You can burp it one of two ways I know, 1) run it without the radiator cap, then refill afterwards or 2) run it for a few minutes then open cap and add coolant.
If I'm wrong with my methods, I'll gladly listen.

Ok so I put on new Stant cap and Stant thermostat. After sitting in the jeep letting it idle for a good half hour and no overheating I thought it was fixed. Then I drove across town and while sitting at a light the temp shot up again. I had to put it in neutral and give it gas to cool back down. The water pump isn't leaking coolant or anything but it looks like I'm replacing it tomorrow. I don't know what else to do. When I turn off the jeep I can hear something wind down. It started today and only lasts for a second. Water pump? Any more ideas?
Thanks

I have put this T-Stat in all my jeeps, one from a 6.9 Ford Diesel NON Turbo, They run about 20$ but well worth the $$, keep the temp very steady. I was having issues with my temp creeping up in slow moving traffic and wheeling. Got this info from an ASE Master Tech, swapped it in, shazam.... fixed.

It will creep up from 210 to the next line. Then after a few minutes the check gauges light comes on and the needle jumps to the first red line (not 260 but the line before it.)
oh yeah and the heat isn't very hot but the fluids are full.

i'm going to replace the water pump today just for the hell of it, but a couple questions. one is i'm not exactly sure where it is, i was thinking it was on the same pulley as the mechanical fan, but now i'm thinking it looks like it is to the right of the fan above the crankshaft. also, will i be able to use the same pulley or do you usually have to purchase a new one?
