Default overheating

Hello all, new to this site and need some help.
I just bought a 92 cherokee 4.0 and when I was driving it home( about 15 miles) it overheated, so when I finally got it home I pulled the thermostat out and tried it again and it got hot even faster.
This is what I have noticed so far: the small electric fan never comes on, but I dont think this is the only problem because it gets hot so fast, also when it gets hot ( over 230 degrees) steam comes out of the rad on the passenger side, I dont know if this is a hole or a high presure vent or something, also when I pulled off the thermostat housing no water came out and I just got thru filling it.

The first thing you need to do is find out where the steam from the passengers side is coming from, hose, drain valve,or hole in tank, then go from there, you may not even have enough water in the system for it to work right.

Ok I will try to see where it is coming from, but I think I will have to take off the grill to see.
I think I have it full, I got it up to 210 with the cap off and filled it until it was full.

Ha! No I just always wanted one. And I will one of these days. I was in a position to buy one a few years ago, but bought a really nice AMX instead. And its GMC.

I just replaced my radiator and the plastic on the passenger side was busted and shooting out steam and it was hard to see where it was coming from. Hope yours is just a hose. GL

just for anyone wondering why their jeep overheats two things to check for. One is mud on your radiator and make sure you have a fan shroud. I didnt have mine on for the last 2 months and it would constantly overheat. today i cleaned my radiator with a hose and put the fan shroud and now it runs 205-215 which is a lot better

Good advice. I got a friend out here who somehow has never ran a fan shroud and he runs cooler than I do! I dont understand it but also make sure your system is completly full.
