So from the research last night...I need the harness from a Jeep Cherokee (same year) with overhead console to make this truly plug and play.....

I saw one on ebay for a 98...complete with harness and brackets and ...I mean everything....but would require some rewiring for any other model (97-01). It was plug and play for the 98 only.

 

Okay, I'm supposed to get my overhead console in the mail on Wednesday. I happen to need my headliner redone, so I was wondering. If I have my headliner taken out and redone, will the wires be up there and ready to go? And if so, are they hidden or just sitting up there? I have a '99 Cherokee Classic, and the headliner also came from a '99 Cherokee, so I should have no compatability issues with wiring. Also, I need to know if there are any other sort of wiring that I would need to find to make this fully functional? The place I called about getting my headliner redone said they can install the overhead console without any problems as long as the wires are there.

 

Just finding an XJ console is tough. The last one I saw on ebay sold for 288 for the whole thing with harness. If you buy it off Jeepsareus it's like 600+ bucks for the whole setup.

It's pretty outrageous unless you can grab one from a JY and the guy doesn't know what he has.

 

I too have a overhead councel out of a 95 grand chero. I am going to install it in my 94 XJ 2 door sport, when i replaced the headliner 2 years ago, the wiring harnesses were just sitting there dangling behind the headliner. Im not to concerned with the heads-up unit, just like to get more interior lighting - hope its just plug and play, Ill post back when i get it installed soon. thanks for the links guys - cheers rob
