how does a 93 I6 xj sound with out a muffler? is it loud? and how loud? sound good, or bad? my muffler is about to rot off planning on getting a new one, but if it sounds good il just leave it mufflerless. i still have the cat on and no leaks. just holes on the bottom of the muffler.

It sounds pretty cool, i knocked mine off on the trail once because it was just clamped on.
It is very illegal to not have a muffler and shunned upon by the jeep community to do illegal things and post how you want to do them, just be prepared for that.
And a big ticket if you are caught without one.

Straight pipes are illegal under federal law. Not having a muffler doesn't cause any pollution, it's more of a noise issue. Some states and cities don't have laws or ordinances requiring them, however most do.
Federal law is important. We do not discuss removal of catalytic converters.
Local laws have sound ordinances, and those are also important.
The I6 doesn't sound like a finely tuned V8 with open headers, I think it sounds a tad obnoxious.
I have a straight thru glasspak, it sounds alright. Drones at idle.

I know in the state of virginia we have a noise ordinance law,but you can't be failed during an inspection for not having one. If you have a bad muffler,we can fail you but if you have nothing at all we can't.
I personally have replaced mine with a straightpipe and like how it sounds. Not annoying and mine doesn't drone at all at interstate speeds.I still have a stock cat and header.
