which one to fix xj or mj
ive run into a bit of a problem. i got my 92 cherokee fixed when i threw rods on cylinders 1, 4, and 5. no hope of salvaging it. and the front axle is coming apart.
i have a 89 comanche that is sitting at my moms house with a good engine and axles but has a bad transmission. this jeep is being built for my little brother who starts driving in june.
both jeeps are look like they have seen better days. they are both sitting on 3" rustys lifts w/ 33's. the mj has fiberglass fenders and bedsides and my xj is cut.
my biggest problem lies in deciding which would be better to do. do i put the engine and front axle outta the mj in my xj OR do i put the transmission outta my xj in the mj. its a tough choice for me because one is gonna get scrapped.

People always say how rare MJs are. I see them all over. They are less cumin then an XJ ill give you that. But there is at least 7 here in my town and at least 30 in my home town 10 min away! I say sell the MJ to one of those MJ nutzos who pay 300 for rear tail light housings then fix the XJ and have extra cash.

Strip the XJ for all the parts you can get off of it and either put those into the MJ or sell them. Then scrap away. I'm sure someone on CL would give you $500 for the XJ regardless of how trashed it is. Here if it has 4wheel drive it is automatically worth 500-1000 trashed and not running it seems.

on top of that, Aaron...the only reason you've seen so many is that I've looked far and wide and pulled them all into town.
there are 4 in burlington, and only 3 or 4 in lake geneva. we're in a blessed area when it comes to finidng MJ's.
and, the motor from the MJ won't work in the xj anyways. you know, the whole renix to high output thing.
fix the mj, buy a motor for $250 used, throw it in the xj, and grab another front axle. it's not like they're that expensive...a whole parts xj would cost under $500.

well for now im just gonna do my best to get the mj running for my lil bro. he needs a ride so ill hook him up with a bad *** jeep. right now all it needs is a transmission. i already went thro all the trouble of putting a new engine in the mj so ill wait for him to blow it up and its getting one of the crate 383 strokers (for my 1970 C-10 drag/show truck) i have. and i still have a set of J8 axles to put in my xj. ill put those under it when i get the funding to get the rest of the stuff needed for my small block chevy swap. in the end ill have 2 built jeeps running tried and true powerplants and ready to hit the az desert and rocks.
