ok guys ONCE AND FOR ALL (RESET ECU)
i put new o2 sensors in my jeep a couple days ago, read on here to reset the ecu. Ok not a problem, followed directions from a online member here, everything worked out fine, my check engine light went out, jeeps runs good
reading today, the way i did it was wrong.
here is how i did it 2 days ago
remove the Positive battery cable for 30 sec.
reconnect it
turn the key ignition on (dont start jeep)
turn headlights on for 10 sec
turn headlights off
turn ignition off
wait 10 sec
computer is reset and will learn etc.......
i read today that thats not right
so here is how i did it today
removed positive and negative cables for 5 min (i cleaned the corrosion off while i waited)
reconnect negative cable
reconnect positive cable
turn key on (dont start)
headlights on for 10 sec
headlights off
ignition off
wait 30 seconds
which is right for the last time
some post say you got to remove both cables and touch them together
some say only the positive to something ground
some say positive only removed for 10 sec
im so confused WHICH IS THE RIGHT WAY????????

you have to touch them together to get rid of the charge left in the system. Alternatively you can wait a while like you did and it will go away on it's own. Either way both should be removed.

No need to turn the key five times, honk the horn twice, turn the seat around once, and open the back hatch. Thats just interweb myths.
Side note. It goes positive first then negative, not the other way around.
