Default oily air filter?

This 1990 is my 4th Cherokee. I thought I had pretty well seen all of the strange stuff that can happen to them. But never have seen a big pool of oil puked up in an air filter until now. What is the fix for this? Is this a comon thing ? thanks Zim

Clean the rear hose/grommet from the valve cover. clean the hose out and dry it. I used a small screwdriver to get the crap out of the ccv grommet, I then used a TINY spray of PB Blaster in it.

I have this problem too, its because of pressure buildup in the crankcase due to blowby

I made this to address this problem

i have this same problem i replaced the ccv line i think its called in the back along with the grommit i'm still getting some oil in the air filter so my next step is to swap out the front breather hose as well. Saw on autozone they sell the whole front harness and hoses for around $50 with the front and back piece

old thread, but i have the problem and cant find much. My entire filter was new 2 months ago, now it is completely covered. Is it blow by from bad valve seals? It looks like the hose that goes to the pcv at the front of the valve cover is just an open tube to allow the oily crap to drip all over my filter. is there something missing off the pcv?

its not pcv, its CCV. It uses negative pressure to pull the exhaust gases out.
I would start by cleaning the hoses and grommets they go into.

I'd suggest replacing BOTH of the hoses going into the valve cover. They are the heart of the CCV system and they can contribute to oil in the air filter.

New from the dealer, these parts will set you back about $35.

Start there. And the best way to do this is to remove the valve cover, clean it thoroughly, replace those hoses and see where you are at.

If you still have oil in the air filter AFTER that, you may have true "blowby" which is a ring problem internal to the engine.

Listen to the man, he speaks the truth. I went to the dealer, ordered the parts, put them on and smack my **** and call me Sally... no more oil on my air filter.

$34 and some change bought the two fittings for the valve cover and both harnesses (hoses/tubes). $6 bought a Fel-Pro gasket for the valve cover. Take the old ones off, take off the valve cover and remove the two fittings the harnesses were attached to on the intake. Clean clean clean that valve cover and take out the baffles from the inside and clean clean clean them as well... make note of how they come off... I found it easier to do one at a time. Lots of degreaser and carb and TB cleaner to clean mine. The fittings from the intake... yup, clean them too... a pipe cleaner helps.

Now I screwed up and spent 30min or more fussing with my VC and that stupid gasket... get something to tack it up and hold it in place or you may very well go insane like I did. Oh... don't forget the new air filter... since the valve cover is off, check your pushrods and rockers for play
