oil system issues
hi im new here looked through some of the other threads but couldn't really get the info I was looking for. I have a beautiful 88 xj with 125xxx on the odo. the jeep holds decent oil pressure but today I decided to fix a leaking valve cover gasket and seen my upper end is crusty and "burnt" looking so I started my jeep and a few of the rockers aren't getting oil to the top of them. I have done the diesel flush and to no avail still nothing on a few of them, should I replace the oil pump??? any suggestions? thanks all
Probably not the oil pump.
For starters you'll want to pull the pushrods (one at a time) and see that the oil passage running through them is clear. If you are lucky it isn't and you can clear the oil passages out, clean everything up and reassemble.
If you are unlucky you'll be pulling the lifters.
What does the valvetrain look like? Clean or gunky?

I will get picks up, its a fram filter, also did a a diesel wash to see if it would help, work is so busy it may be a day or so. Also i did pull pushrods and they are clear but other than the pushrods i didnt go any further

Ditch that piece of **** and put a Wix or Napa Gold on now. Don't need to change the oil, just the filter. See what happens.

In case ur wondering why cruiser told you to ditch Fram filters, it is one of worst in terms of quality.
Literally every WJ, XJ, and ZJ in the junkyards I have seen, had Fram oil filters on it. For some reason it slow down the flow of oil in engine, especially on the top, and the lack of oil following start up eventually wear down the cylinders or the pistons, and also the upper valve train.
Just a friendly FYI

ok so... I did a diesel flush to the engine and seen no change. I changed the oil filter seen no change. did another flush with new oil and another new filter still no change, my pressure came up 5 psi but that was it. still have the same lifter tick still spotty oil at the top of the engine... where do you think I should go from here? the oils have come out pristine clean all three times aslo. I bought the jeep about a month ago for a project for 500 so its cool to throw a little cash at it, right?
