Default Oil saturating my air filter????

ok so i installed one of those ebay air intakes in hopes of helping my Renix 4.0 breathe better. I noticed the oem air filter had oil all over it but i just disregarded it and threw all the oem stuff away.
So after about a week of driving and a puddle of oil on my garage floor i inspected the area and found my new air filter soaking with oil

So im guessing its coming from the tube that comes out of the top of the valve cover and into the air filter?

Any 1 else have this problem and know how to fix it? any help would be appreciated.

BTW jeep is a 1990 cherokee laredo 4.0 auto

Yep, this problem is VERY common among high mileage Jeep 4.0 engines. Some guys do away with that hose from the valve cover and just put a breather with a separate filter right on the valve cover. Other guys put an inline oil trap between the valve cover and the air intake. I just live with it the way it is and regularly clean my air filter and intake pipe. I hope this gives you some ideas for a plan of attack.

You are right it is coming from that tube, but the tube is not the problem, the problem is you have alot of blow by,meaning you are loosing compression past the rings,Warm up your motor and check the compression on your motor, should be 120 -150,its a good chance you have lost some.

The problem is called blow by.

Dealerships sell new vac hose kits that will solve your problem.

Or you could take all hoses off and try blowing them out with an air compressor. I would just go buy the kit though.

This! Works like a charm for a very common problem on most old american made vehicles with similar setups.

Also it looks cool having a tiny conical filter on your valve cover, bonus points if it matches your current intake color.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/universal.aspx

Scroll down to "Rubber Base Crankcase Vent Filters", click it and enter the dimensions you need. You could try the metal base filters as well.

Just plug the end of the line in your airbox with something that isn't going to come lose, and put the filter on your valve cover where the air line used to connect.

Should take you about 15 minutes to complete.
