Hello Jeep bretheren, the other day out of the blue my oil pressure dropped to about 10 pounds upon start up, then drive. Not long after, the gauge bottomed out, and the red “check gauges” light came on. Was on base and near my house, so I went home. Next day I started up again and check engine light came on with low pressure again, followed by the drop to zero and check gauge light.
i suspected at first a bad sending unit, which I quickly replaced. The pressure is back at normal readings, but the check engine light is still on. I activated the computer diagnostic to display the code upon powering on the vehicle, but after cycling through all nine stages, it did not supply a code.
any thoughts? It has not been driving or running any differently in the 10 or so miles I drove it in this condition.
thanks in advance.

What is the year submodel and engine? My assumption would be that the failed oil pressure sending unit set the MIL and that a quick way to unset it would be to disconnect the battery for a bit, then reconnect it. Maybe, someone on here knows that this is a prolific issue for a certain year or some such, though.

I would clear the code if no code came out after trying to read them , see if it clears and if the check engine light comes back on , I guess you have a 2001 xj with a 4.0L .

To clear the code and check engine light all you need to do is unplug the computer for about 10-15 min. and then you don't need to reprogram any thing else .

Brothers, thanks for your replies and on-site, after driving it a short bit today to and from work (miles round trip) the check engine light is gone (wooo!) but the dreaded “low wiper fluid” light returned, as there is a leake somewhere in the tank just at the level to trip the light, plenty of fluid to use 🧐🧐🧐
