You would think so, right? But on mine the lower third (both sides) of the oil pan, bellhousing and tranny pan were wet with oil. I think air moving at 60mpg moves the leaking oil in suprising directions. Dry as a bone after new o-rings.

Yeah, mine looks the same. My tranny pan and bell housing have oil on them too from driving down the road. I crawled under the jeep and it looks like the oil pan drain bolt is leaking. Also at the back of the valve cover gasket, it appears there is some leaking too.

I hope my rear main seal is not leaking as well. That would suck.

How hard is it to change out the valve cover gasket on a 2000 XJ with fuel injectors in the way on one side and radiator hoses on the other? Is this going to be a giant pain in the ****?

Easy to change the cover gasket on a 2000. I literally just did mine and the only issue is making the cover go around heater hoses. injectors arent an issue. However I am stuck at the rear main, cap and everything came out fine but I cannot get the top portion of the seal to worm out at all. 182k on the original seal I guess the bench just burnt herself right to the bearing. I have poked, punched and prodded with no luck. I reckon my next step is to put the motor mounts back together and try rolling the crank by hand to see if i can get her to even slightly budge. If anyone has a better way that will work I am open for suggestion.
