Default Oil Leak

Okay, so i have a 89 Cherokee 4.0. I have an oil leak. who doesn't right? lol. anyways. the leak I believe is coming from behind the block because when it drips onto the ground it is dripping from the bell housing. I know its not tranny oil. It seems to be dripping from somewhere behind the block then running down and around the bell housing and dripping off right at the bottom point of the bell housing. One of the bolt heads on the valve cover (last rear one one right) is snapped off. so it is always a possible it has loosened and is leaking from right there. I checked and didn't see/feel any oil. I have talked to some of my friends with jeeps also they said it might be my rear main seal. so, basically i am just looking for anyones ideas. please help lol damn leak is pissing me off.

good chance its rear main. crappy 2 piece design. but on a good note the 2 piece design means you dont have to drop trans to change

Yeah sounds like rear main. Could always to valve cover gasket before to rule that out. It's quick, simple, and best of all, cheap!!

I'd replace the rms and if its still there it'd more than likely be your valve cover gasket. Also your oil filter o ring may leak just fyi.

Check around the valve cover, oil filter and dipstick tube.It could be comming out of that.If not then it's probly the rms.

I would def. hit that valve cover one first, since it is the easiest to change... if not that then I am going to say it is most likely your RMS.... and fix the messed up bolt on your valve cover while you're there...
