Default Oil filter adapter, t60 is definitely too big

Trying to replace the o-rings, which are leaking, but a t60 is definitely too big and a t55 is very much too small. I've cleaned the inside of the bolt, everyone says its a t60 but it doesnt fit in the least bit .. whats the deal here? It's a 2001 limited, I cant find anything about a t58 or any in between sizes

If the jeep is not all factory parts, it could have an older filter adapter on it. Some of them use a Allen wrench. No, I don't know what size. I'm guessing 3/8? My 2000 is a T60.

thanks @dave1123 , having done some deeper digging, it must just be swollen with rust...ive been hitting it a rust remover/penetrating oil, but may have to use something more industrial.

That's the problem with socket type bolts exposed to road grime. They tend to rust internally so you can't get the tool into them. I'm a toolmaker and have plenty of Grade12 hex socket cap screws. However, I stopped using them because of this problem. The wrench tolerances are too close for the hex key to fit if they get the slightest bit rusty. I used them on the cylinder head of my Tecumseh snow blower engine. They were tough enough where my extractor sockets wouldn't even bite on them! I had to grind notches in them so the sockets would bite. Hell, we're only talking 1/4" bolts!

Because of space limitations, I'd suggest using a small Allen wrench ground to a point and used as a pick to scrape inside the socket. Allen wrenches are very hard and are cheap enough to sacrifice one to the cause. I'd use a long arm one so you can handle it easily or stick it in a vise-grip.

If I was still working, I could design a better banjo bolt for that adapter with stainless steel, thinner walls, bigger oil passages, and an external head for a box wrench. They tell me a TJ uses an oil filter that just screws directly into the block at that location. I can't see a TJ having more room, can you?
