First off, thank you to everyone that has contributed to this forum. Y'all have saved me thousands of dollars over the years by giving me the knowledge needed to work on my 2000 XJ in my garage. I finally got around to tackling my numerous oil leaks after 200k+ miles. Knocked out the rear main seal and oil pan gasket first, and saved the fun oil filter adapter for last. I tried every breaker bar I could fit and no luck. I was about to remove my motor mount and try to get a socket wrench in there but decided to try something first.
This turned out to be a five minute job with this method. It may have been posted already but I haven't seen it. From underneath, I put my torx bit on a crescent wrench to start. Then I hooked a ratchet strap to the hole on the bottom of the wrench and the other end to my tow hook. A few ratchets and I heard it pop loose. I had to do it again to get it loose enough to use a ratcheting wrench to finish the removal.
If you're tired of fighting with it, try this and maybe it will work as well for you as it did me.
