Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway...
I need to change the o-rings on the adapter, so I called the dealership to see if they had them. They said they do, but they are $8 a piece, and there isn't a kit you have to buy them seperately. To me that sounds a life outrageous for o-rings. So I'm wanting to know if you can pull the adapter off, get everything cleaned up and then run a bead of blue or black permatex on it and bolt it back in? Or do I just bite the bullet and pay the $24?

yup what he said... I have also seen the adapter eliminated and a filter screwe4d right onto the block... which is what ill end up doing when mine leaks

O RING, Oil Filter Adapter p/n 33002972 as either two small or one large o-ring.
Mopar lists these part numbers for the 89 but these may be the wrong part numbers and size for earlier models.

I'm pretty sure the older and the newer are different. Never put any sealant on an O ring. I would just take my old to the parts store or Ace and match them up. Find black ones, I've seen posts of trouble with colored ones. Mental, there might be issues with the filter hitting the frame. Maybe you need a bad mount for it to do that.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll check the local parts stores this weekend and see what I can find.
I did search doing away with the adapter, but I think I'm going to wait to do that till I change out my motor mounts. Everything I read it looked like the only people who had problems with it was when the motor mounts where shot and allowing the motor to shift and push the filter into the frame rail.

I found some part numbers for the 89 ... from an eariler Jeep parts catalog ..
O-rings (doesn't list thickness size)

We have a mom n pops hardware store that carries different types of o-rings the same or similar size. Matches sometimes work, other times are not the right size o-ring and leak.
A micrometer sometimes works to determine the right thickness and diameter. O-rings have different standards and tolarances for similar sizes.
I can't always take a part into the store to make the correct match.

From the post I saw on here about a month ago - I would NOT screw a filter directly to the block. Sounds like an issue waiting to happen, as it was for that one dude that had an engine fire.
