oil filter adapter
Not sure how the Jeep dealer would have removed the adapter on my Jeep, but it was an "interesting" job. This one has the Torx type ( #60 )center bolt recess. There is no way that the Torx bit will ever get that un-screwed.
Anyway, I ended up removing things that were in the way to get at it, and used an 18 inch pipe wrench to break it loose. The Torx bit only came in handy un-screw it out & to bolt it back together.
Those adapters are kinda like the back window in an El Camino.........those that leak, and those that will........
Now the oil consumption will be zero instead of a cupful..

I was in the same place as you, had to get creative as the parts guy I spoke with years ago had no clue if he could even find the part and mine had started leaking pretty badly. My dad had an old gm oil filter (stp 3980) laying around and I had to fix it quickly. The gasket from the filter was thicker than the ring but worked perfectly for me. I had a fun time with the torx also.

Just did mine this weekend, welded the T-60 bit to my 12mm box end wrench, put it in the bolt, put the 4' jack handle over it, held it in place until tension and push! I made sure to get the engine up to temp first, that locktite the factory puts on makes them tighter than a frogs anus.
All good now, next up, back flushing the heater core so i get some heat, -27F this morning with the windchill.......wow

No on the draining of the system, I did that in April when I bought it at auction. I lost maybe 2 quarts, I filled the heater core with 50/50 before putting the hoses back on. The warmed up to temp and topped off the radiator and the overflow bottle. Works like a charm, and I would definitely recommend doing this before trying to change out the heater core. I hear that is a real PITA!!
