Hey guys... Quick question. The pin in the picture ( top side of oil filter- think its the pressure sensor) looks like it was cut off or broken on the stroker. 1st? Is it important how long it is? ( doesn't touch anything) 2 if it is, how do I get it out? Thanks

Well I found out finally that it is just a roll pin to position the adapter so it's not important (about an inch of play there). Also found a write up to remove the adapter and attach an oil filter straight to the block but I'm not gonna do that.

Yup already replaced the o-rings. Think I might throw a small bead of black RTV on there too.. It was leaking like crazy before lol

Do NOT use any RTV on the o ring. Never use RTV where there is an o ring sealing something.

Yep^. On an O ring, all sealant can do is prevent it from sealing properly. Not saying necessarily it will leak, but no, just lube O rings.

Okay thanks. The o-ring just presses against the block.. No groove or anything... Can easily see why they leak so often. Was going to run a small bead on the outside of the o ring ( about .5" to play with) not on top of it but you guys talked me out of it.

Yea. An O ring sort of "floats" (in it's snug fit). Pressure behind it pushes it out to fit tighter. It moves a little to do it's job, unlike a normal gasket that uses the torque/pressure on something flat to hold pressure. Just a different cider, apples and oranges. All the torn bits of "stuff" can do (if added), is interfere with the seal.

"Was going to run a small bead". I get you there. Should not be needed, the proper ring will seal fine. Btw. I've seen posts that the colored, blue or green? might be a problem. Go with black. (side note, I sell Viton O rings for garden sprayers on ebay) You can spray finger-nail polish remover with these puppy's!

Do you HAVE to remove all the oil to do this? Mines leaking and is about a quarter inch from the add bar and just did my oil around Christmas but didn't see any drippage until recently.

No. You only loose what is in the filter. Check the links in post 3.

Nope. O-rings are used in some pretty high-pressure applications. They work VERY well. No groove required.

They only leak on our Jeeps because they break down over time. I dunno for sure, but I suspect they are pretty ordinary rubber. If you can find one to fit made from Viton they'll last a looooong, looooong time. Even the rubber will do a good job for 10 years or so.

Thank you, I did and that's why I asked. I guess people figure might as well change it too.

They leak because the O-rings get hard with use, and will eventually not seal anymore.

When I replace them, I like to fill the groove with red moly grease or heavy-bodied engine assembly lube, smear a little more around the top of the O-ring once I set it in, then squidge the whole thing in there. Overkill, but the lubrication seems to help keep the thing from drying out.

Also, whenever possible, I'll use Buna-N material. Viton is a second choice, Nitrile is third, and EPDM should be avoided.
