I know this may sound dumb, but is there a trick to getting it off? I've tried everything I know and it still wont come off. It's a 94 XJ Cherokee

It's just like removing any other oil filter. What methods have you tried? Did you put it on last time? How'd you tighten it down?

get an aluminum bar or some sort of longer bar put over handle of oil filter wrech and have it about 2 to 3 or 4 foot long and uses that as a cheater bar. I had to use it a couple of weeks ago. turn towards driver side when pushing. push towards drivers side. TAKE YOUR TIME AND HAVE THE WRENCH CLOSE TO THE OIL ADAPTER .

If you're using one of the metal strap style oil filter wrenches, try wedging a piece of heavy grit sand paper between the wrench and the filter. This gives some bite on slippery/over tightened filters.

Not to sound smart or anything but, you are turning it the right way arent you? Other than that I agree they are always a pain and require some leverage. That being said I advise against the hammer/screwdriver thru the center method on this particular filter as sooner or later that`s going to cause the oil filter adapater gasket to leak. And if you think getting the filter off is tough that adapter gasket on the '94 is a pain
