it is blowby, caused by worn piston rings. I would do a compression check and see how your motor is doing, compression should be between 120-150lbs.

You have compression rings and oil rings, what is happening is you are loosing some compression past the rings and it is pressurizing the block. This does not mean your engine is about to go out, when they get to the point they are smoking your engine is toast. The problem you have is somewhat common. I suggested the compression check so you would know the health of your motor.

Early engines had no PCV valve. Removing and cleaning the vacuum lines and the underside of the insertions into the valvecover helped.

Learning to work on Cherokees is a great teaching element for the future so you don't end up dependant on someone else to fix things for you. You gain confidence in your own abilities.

The best feeling is when you build a motor and start it up for the first time. I thought mine wasn't gonna run good but I had someone there the whole time giving me tips and it ran like a top. Also ran 12.10's all motor and 11.50's on the juice. I seen stroker 4.0L My plans are to build one of them next

Seafoam works wonders for clearing out oil sludge from under the valve covers. Just keep in mind two things:

1) You'll probably need to do another oil change in a thousand miles or so to clear out all the loose sludge that the Seafoam worked loose. This isn't always the case, but it's never a bad idea to get that crap out of your oil pan so your pump isn't fooling with it.

2) Adding Seafoam to your crankcase with an oil change can have a negative effect in that it'll cause some small oil leaks when it clears away the sludge. This is a pretty common problem, but in the years I've been using Seafoam, I've never seen it cause large leaks.

It also works awesome in your tranny, but getting a transmission flush done a few hundred miles after you put the Seafoam in helps a lot, too.

Also, Seafoam comes in two different flavors...one for your transmission, one for your engine. Make sure you use the right ones.

Yep, seafoam is some pretty good stuff. Buddy of mine that works at napa suggested it . There are many different ways to do it but he told me to put it in the crank case, run it in the driveway for about 20-30 minutes then change the oil. I have also heard to put it in the crank case about 100 miles before your next oil change.
