DO YOU STILL HAVE CONSTANT VACUUM TO THE EGR VALVE? If so plug it off. (for diagnosis), And yes. In the right situation you can burn exhaust valves. A wet/dry compression test might show that.

And no, it has no "memory's" of the old days!

Could it be that after I fixed the egr lines and other vac hoses, that the previous owner had all messed up, it made it run bad because it was not used to all the air?
No. That's false info. You need to find the big leak you've got now, and INDEX the distributor using the markd on the balancer. Go no further until that's done.

The little round black thing under the intake tube actually does not suck all the time, but I have yet to hear it suck in general, if it's closed shut would it not suck at all?
And oh okay thanks

An EGR can stick open internally allowing exhaust gasses into the intake and you won't hear a thing.

Would you recommend spraying carb cleaner around all vac hoses to see if the car dies?
And what does indexing using the marks on the balancer mean? Is that the ohms test I was doing? I can't get a reading by pushing my testers through the back, I need to try flip stones paper clip idea
Sorry I'm not getting this haha as I said I'm 17 and still learning,
My dad would be great at all this ohm stuff cause he was an electrician before he went to Afghanistan to work, so you guys have been a great help and I really appreciate it!!!

Index your distributoe using my instructions, but be absolutely your marks are lilned up on the front cover and balancer at #1 TDC. Get this right first.

Yes, spraying carb cleaner will find vacuum leaks. But, the EGR can leak internally and spraying the ourside won't tell you anything.

Is that the one where I cut the hole in the distributor and adjust some things? If so I'll be doing that Saturday morning.
Also, I don't know if this is normal or not but if I throttle my engine pretty good I can feel a puff of air coming out my snorkel, just a faint hint of air though and only for a sec.

Yes, the cut cap, using your marks on teh balancer and timing cover after being sure you're coming up on #1 TDC using your finger over #1 spark plug hole.. Get that done next.

Okay I think I get it, I will do this early Saturday morning. I'm sorry but what does that do? I go mudding sometimes, will the hole cause problems with dirt or debri in there?

Use an old cap. This is only for indexing it. Consider the cutaway cap as a tool.

Ahh, so the hole is just for adjustment purposes and when it is set right a non-cut cap is placed back on?

It may have to wait until next Saturday because I don't get paid until next Friday and I'm going to replace cap, rotor, plugs and wires
