It is a strange one and there may be an electrical element to it but, when in 1-2, if the TCU had no power, it should go into 1st gear, in 3 into 3rd and D, 4th and reverse should also always work. If you only had the issue of it always feeling in 1st gear, I could see how an electrical issue would cause it.

I'm no expert on the AW4 so there's not much more I know about however, the following link is the service manual for it and does have some troubleshooting steps that you could have a go at: http://shop.ukrtrans.biz/wp-content/...talogs/AW4.pdf

I appreciate the help, i’ll look into that service manual. It’s such a weird issue and i feel like i’m just dumping money into it at this point because i’ve done a full tune up, replaced the neural safety switch, crank sensor, tcm, pcm, map sensor, tps, cts, and i’ve gotten no where. It always seems like it’s fixed and then has an issue a week later, and it’s hard to tell when i’ve actually fixed it or not and the only way to find out is by driving and getting stuck somewhere. It got to the point where i had to take it to a shop and even they couldn’t fix it and luckily they didn’t bs me and charge me for a million different things. It’s also hard to tell if all the issues i’ve had are connected because they come and go so often.

Default update again

I went and cleaned up some grounds that i missed the first time and found that the battery to body ground was super loose. So i cleaned it up and drilled a new hole for the bolt and the jeeps been doing good. Only thing i’m still noticing is it’s super slow shifting into drive and reverse sometimes, and sometimes when it’s cold it’s hard for it to go into 2nd gear. I’m thinking of replacing the trans fluid and filter. If anyone has an other ideas it’s be appreciated. thanks

If you mean automatically shift from first to second when cold I am thinking that is more normal.
Depending on exactly how hard.
On a cold morning if I start my Jeep and start driving immediately it will stay in first a little longer and the shift from first to second
is a little harder. But that is until the Jeep warms up some. And when I say some I mean just till I get around the corner.

My white Sports is like that, changing the fluid improved things..on the first start for the day, it takes 15 secs to engage Reverse, after that, about 1.7 secs

Used to also hold 1st till very high revs, at lower throttle position, it would change up much earlier (only on 1st start), new fluid seemed to have cured that

Usually filter doesnt need changing, as its only wire mesh

I believe the trans had poor maintenance prior to my ownership

Absolutely change the fluid. No need to do the filter. Drain and refill using Dex/Merc fluid only. NOT the Chrysler + 4 stuff.

And, I think you helped me make a point on THOROUGHLY doing all the grounds.

Have you done Tip 10? I would.

Default problems again

the jeep has been completely fine since my last post, all of a sudden the other day on the high way it randomly revved up and i started losing speed, when i pulled off the exit and tried to speed back up i had to almost floor it to move anywhere, i turned it off when started it back up and it seemed fine, same thing happen when i turned onto my street but i was able to make it to a parking spot, since then when i try to put it in drive, reverse, 1-2, or 3 it just acts like it’s in neutral so i can’t move it at all. Any suggestions?

What did the old fluid look like, and how is it now?

Did you remove the pan?
