I need help with a vibration in my drive line. When I bought the XJ, the front drive shaft was out. I put it back in today and at around 55 mph there is a bad vibration throughout the Jeep. it doesn't happen when the drive shaft is out of it though. it is bad in 2wd, but when I put it in 4hi, it does not happen under load. when you are accelerating, or decelerating, it doesn't happen, but when you let off of the gas, it vibrates until the load builds on the drive line as it lows down. the 4x4 seems to work well otherwise though. I know that the transfer case was changed out at some point, but again, the 4x4 itself seems to be working. my neighbor thinks it may be the transmission mount, but I don't want to just throw parts at it unless I am confident that it will fix it.
Any ideas/suggestions? I would prefer to fix than just take the drive shaft of again.

Any ideas at all would be appreciated. it starts about 50 mph, and gets worse at 55. sounds ad feels like the vibration you may get when you drive on the textured part of the roadway on the side of the highway. only does it in 2wd or when coasting at highway speed in 4wd. may be coming from front end, rather than transmission area.
would a bad u-joint ont he driveshaft at the front axle cause this?

thanks, I was told that it only started doing this after a Transfer case change. I assumed that if it was ok before, then it would be ok now. but I don't know if it was dropped, or what all. This doesn't happen when the shaft is out, so I'm not sure if it is a bad joint in the axle. this also doesn't happen at any speed when in 4 high (when under load, when coasting, yes) I would think it would do it in 4 high if it was the shaft. but.... anything is possible i guess. I will try new joints in the shaft first and go from there, that sounds like the least expensive place to start.

Mine does the same thing. All joints are fine, and even tried a new ft driveshaft with no change. Wish I could help, but I need a solution too and no one here has been able to help unfortunately. At least I'm not the only one...

I have no answer, but could the drive shafts joints be OUT OF "PHASE" with each other when you installed it? Maybe this will jumpstart those that do have answers?

When I got that rumble strip vibration. I was advised to thoroughly check spline (for grease) and back universal, which was binding.Changed u joint and greased spline. No more vibration. Easy check Cheap fix.
