Default obd2 issues

Need some help my obd2 port doesn't work anymore and now my jeep is idling funny and getting worse mileage. I figure its my o2 sensors but I never get a check engine light. Please help. I'm changing the o2s tonight any other things I should look at. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried scanning the computer for stored codes? I would.

I've tried that the port doesn't work. My friend has a smog shop in Vegas we tested it on his machine and the machine can't pull any info off the port. Glad I don't have to smog it in Missouri. That's what's got me wondering what it could be .

It could be the ECU computer going bad. That would affect the way it's calculating your fuel/air mix as well as affect the ability to pull OBD codes.

Have you inspected the contacts on the OBD port for any damage?

Yes there fine on the port ill check the computer next. It only started idling funny last night but other than that it runs great and usually gets 15mpg almost always. How hard is the computer to replace

Computer replacement is easy. Disconnect battery, pop the connectors and replace. Be sure it is replaced with an applicable one for your year.

Tested used computers on the internet can be around $150.

Salvage yard ones can run anywhere from $30 to $100. Call around.

Replacing the original oxygen sensors on your 99 is not going to be the wrong thing to do. People forget that oxygen sensor have a finite life span of between 100k to 150k, depending on the efficiency of the engine.

Look for a name brand sensor like NTK or Bosch. Stay away from no-name, el-cheapo crap found on ebay. It is just that. Crap.

Id even stay away from Bosch. I find there really hit or miss on domestic product when it comes to long term reliably. Just stick to NTK or NGK (whatever there called, same company). Just my .02 cents.

Well I think I got lucky tonight. I went to oreillys to get the computer and ended up with new o2s and a scanner that works on my jeep thank god. Just as I started driving the 50 miles to oreillys the check engine light went on. They scanned it. And it worked. Thanks guys I really appreciate the help.
