Default NSS will not adjust enough

I hope this is an easy one. I have read about 200 NSS articles on here and none of them have helped me with this. Old NSS was exploded on the inside so I had to replace it, and I got a relatively cheap one online. No matter how much I adjust it in either direction, I can't get it to start in Neutral. also, my reverse lights stay on in reverse for the entire amount of adjustment. full forward, full back, in the middle, a smidge in either direction - nothing. I cannot get it to allow a natural start.

Could it be a shift linkage adjustment? I cleaned all around the NSS to make sure it was mounting and moving as much as possible.

Please help me - I gotta get that check engine light out before inspection

There have been a few recent posts of the cheaper NSS being bad out of the box. If you can't get a neutral start at all, It has me concerned that the NSS you selected may simply be bad. They had also bought cheaper ones, and fixed by replacing with others. I just replaced my factory NSS with a Standard Motor NSS (there slightly more expensive non-"T" line), and it was uneventful.

Perhaps before jumping through a bunch of hoops and pulling hair out, is it an option for you to try another brand?

Because the alternative would be to open it up and inspect (to rule manufacturing problems), then also test the connector with a multi-meter to ensure that all of the pin-outs have continuity when they should (based on the position of the rotating portion).

Rats. I had a feeling that was the case, as Ive done other NSS replacements and this has never been such a hassle. Thanks for confirming my suspicion on an electronic part from China that was 90% less than from a local shop

The major problem with Chinese parts besides quality is they don't test the completed parts unless the buyer pays for it. That's why some parts are good and some aren't. Even Mopar has some parts made in China, but they are tested on both sides of the supply chain. In 93 I worked for Pass&Seymour and they opened a plant in Mexico to assemble receptacle type ground fault interrupters using THEIR parts and had a 20% failure rate which was unacceptable! They closed the plant, but their reputation suffered. They had to inspect and test every one that was made there that was still in stock. They lost a HUGE contract with a hotel chain in Las Vegas because of it.

I bought one of those aftermarket NSS a while back and had some trouble getting it to work. It mustve been old stock as i opened it up and found the grease was already starting to harden. Springs werent doing anything. I cleaned it out and regreased it using dielectric, and got it working again.
