It's unlikely that you broke the parking pawl just by wrenching on the output shaft to the NSS... especially without noticing. But, for one reason or another, the parking pawl isn't engaging. Could be linkage, could be broken. Start by adjusting the linkage as per the FSM and if that doesn't work it's time to crack the tranny or adjust your e-brake.
