Could be just a bad sensor on the tcase i have a similar problem with mine but it goes in to all the ranges with out any problems just the lights in the dash don't always work in full time light works part time some times my light works and in 4low the light doesn't work but i can feel that it is going into each range properly so in not worried about it but if it is some thing that bothers u i would say look into checking if the sensor on the tcase is working properly and look at the wireing to make sure that is not a problem also

There's a plug that connects to the transfer case that has I believe 4 pins on it. Unplug it and clean it up some, perhaps it is just dirty.

You can confirm that you are in fact in 4wd though, correct? Just the light not working?
