NP231 Rear Yoke/Bushing Issue-Please Help
To try to stop the TC from pouring fluid on my new to me 1996 Cherokee, I installed a new rear output seal and bushing in my 'early style' NP231. Everything went fine except for that the rear yoke does not fit through the new bushing. The pictures below show the bushing I bought from Morris 4x4 (part # 8134490) and installed. What am I missing ? I am new to the XJ world and I think I read that in '96 there was a change in the rear output design. Is it possible that the bushing I got is for the 'later style' NP231 and that is why the inner diameter of the bushing is too small or is there something screwy with yoke I have ? It has been two weeks now since I first ran into the problem and I am dying to get this thing back together. Thank you guys for your time and I really appreciate any assistance you can offer.

I thought that the bushing was incorrectly packaged or something so I called Morris 4x4 and had them check it with the replacement yoke they sell. They told me that the bushing fit just fine over the yoke they had in inventory. I would install the old one but it split during removal from the extension housing. I went to the Jeep dealer to check the bushing against a replacement yoke and the yoke they brought me looked different than the one I have (and no mention of another part style). I am assuming the yoke they had was the 'late style' yoke and the bushing seemed like it would fit ok. Thus further adding to my confusion.
I thought the same thing so I double checked the ID tag and it shows New Process 231 J. The link below is the bushing from Morris 4x4. It does only show up to 1995 for the extension bushing (#33 on the diagram). Once you click the link to the part it lists 87-01 XJ in the details. Do you have a link to a different vendor that others have bought this bushing from without issue?

It is driving me nuts because this is $10 part and 30 min of work to get it back on the road but I can't seem to figure out what the deal is. With some of the other things I found wrong with the Jeep I am thinking this might be another rigged up crap fix be the PO.
