I have a 96 xj sport, I went to the store and it wouldn't start. Towed it home and replaced the neutral safety switch. But same thing. I can hear the relays click but there is nothing going to the starter. What else can cause it to not crank. I have to look to see if I can find a wiring diagram for the ignition switch. Maybe try a push button start to see if it is the switch. But is ther something else to check?

 

First, check your battery voltage with a meter. Just because the lights come on doesn't mean there's enough juice to start the car.

Now, check your cable connections. Don't just look at them - push and pull and shove on them to see if they are loose. Now, disconnect and clean them. Look carefully at the cables for signs of corrosion - it can wick up inside the insulating jacket and wreak havoc out of sight.

We after checking all the connections and pulling the start to take it to get tested. It turns out it was the ignition module. Once it was replace the old jeep fired write up again.
