Default 1995 JGC not cranking nor starter clicking

Hello,

Need help please.

I have a 1995 JGC with 282K miles. Stopped, got out for a moment got
back in, and now get one click when I turn the key. When I turn it again I
get no sound from the starter.

I had the battery and starter checked at autozone and they both checked out as good. Both battery posts and terminals were corroded, so I cleaned
them very well. Even changed the connector on the negative side with
a new brass one to be certain it was getting a good grip.

I tried jumping the starter with a screw driver. I got a couple of clicks and then a pop. I assumed it was a bad starter. So I had it checked out.
It passed Autozone's test.

All electrical components appear to be operating strongly in the jeep. Yet
I only get 1 click when I turn the key. Then nothing.

My next approach was to try to manually turn the crank to elliminate the
engine being frozen.

Any ideas? All help is greatly appreciated. I hope to get 300K miles out of it.

-Chris

Did you happen to check the relay in the under hood fuse box. Swap it out with one of the others and then try starting. you can pick them up at Napa for $7 if that's what it is.

How had it been running before you shut it off? I would pull the spark plugs out and try to turn the engine over manually, as you stated, to eliminate the possibility of engine seizure, or internal mechanical damage. JMO. Let us know what you find out.
And Welcome to CF.

Hello,

Thank you for the responses. Turns out that I just needed to thoroughly clean the positive cable where it connects to the
terminal. then making sure it also had a good grip on the post.

Once doing that it started right up.

However I did take a plug out and spun the crank. So I knew I was okay there.

300K miles here I come.

Thanks again,
Chris

Glad to hear the old girl's fixed-up and still humming right along.
