Default "noob" needs help with shocks...

Hey guys! Well I just got my first XJ and the only issue is it needs new front shocks. It's got about a 5 " lift and it currently has Doetsch shocks. What do you guys recommend I get? Needs to be good but also somewhat cheap! Thanks for any input you can give!

What you have are good a good brand of shocks,a cheap shock but not in quality would be rough country. You can replace the fronts with doetsch tech for about $50-$60 each,rc about $30-$40.

another good brand that you could put on there for pretty cheap is skyjacker shocks.. they are about the same price as rough country and you can get them in nitro too

Ok, thanks for all the input guys! What about Bilstein 5100's clearanced on rustysoffroad.com for 40$? Good deal? Also since I'm new to this should I try to install myself or have someone do it?

bilsteins are deff. good shocks and if they are clearanced i would go with those.. i personally think it is very easy to change shocks. i think you should do it yourself because you will learn about your vehicle. as long as you have to tools to do it.. it doesnt require very much so i say go for it!!!

I had Bilstein 5100 on my Toyota, great shocks. Just make sure that the ones you purchase have the required travel for the size of your lift.

Ok, so go with the one that is equal to your lift? Hence the 6"?

Use lots of penetrating oil when you do the shocks. It will make the job a lot easier.
