93 XJ Sport w/ 277k. Speedomoter is noisy at the dash, especially in the mornings. Sounds like the plastic gears are dry. Anyone ever had this and fixed it? Can I detach the cable from the back of the speedo and shoot a little Lithium grease in there or something?

 

That is what I did on my 65 Chevy P/U. I never did it on my Jeeps But I don't know why it wouldn't work. Also try to get it into the cable casing.

 

I think the '93 sport will have an electronic Speedo, my '92 sport does.

If it's mechanical then yes. I put graphite lube in my 1984 S10, it did the exact same thing, real loud in the mornings & it quieted down in warmer conditions

 

Could've just been the higher trim levels, but yeah. Opened my dash up yesterday to resolve a similar issue, and found this.

 

93 would have an electric speedo. Pretty sure all '91 and up do.

 

Well then THIS changes things. The noise increases with road speed and sounds just like a dry speedo. Weird.

No, its from my driveline. I was jsut gonna shoot some wd40 down the cable and see if that helped. Noise ended up being 2 bad ujoints
