Default no start

Hello, I am a newbe and this is my first post. I have a 1994 jeep Cherokee SE. 4.0L, 6 cylinder.

Problem: cranks but no start. Not even a sputter.

problem first occurred after sitting for 3 days during an unusually cold weekend (9 degrees F.)

I Replaced: fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, crankshaft position sensor (the one on the bell housing), camshaft position sensor ( the one that sits between the distributor and distributor cap).

Fuel rail has pressure, and there is blue/white spark from distributor to spark plug when I crank the motor.

I am machanically inclined but not electronically inclined. I saw some threads talking about wire harness issues and so I checked my Chiltons manual and tried to follow instructions about testing for grounds/opens etc.. at the computer module (PCM?), but my wire colors and locations don't match what the manuel is saying so I am not sure how to proceed.

Jay.

I'm impressed that you changed out all that stuff without a clue as to the problem!

Are the injectors firing? Someone can take you through that aspect of troubleshooting because I only know what I read here on occasion.

You need spark, fuel and compression to start. You have spark and there is no particular reason to believe you suddenly lost compression. That leaves fuel and you have fuel to the rail.

Have you tried starting with starting fluid into the throttle body? Looks like the next step to me.

Good luck!

Def worth a try. Interesting it gets, when that still leaves a no start...

Pelican, Thanks for the suggestions. did all the part replacements via other threads I read about similar problems people were having. I am heading to get some starter fluid now. and will research the injector idea and let you know what happens.
Jay.

Highmilage, sorry, not sure what "^^this" means.

Roler, sorry mate, I do not understand your fragmented sentence.

^^This meanse Highmilage is agreeing with what is said above.

My fragmented sentence? Maye the " Interesing it gets", should be put on the end of the sentence as in " then it gets interesting"....thought that wasn't overly unclear...

"You need spark, fuel and compression to start."

You also need air in the proper ratio to fuel, and timing.

If you have all that, the engine will run.

Maybe the word combustion could be fitted in there. Fuel, spark and combustion (since combustion is the end result of the air properly mixed with fuel and ignited by the spark all at the right time. No wait, in that case you could say: all you need is combustion). And in a Jeep, you always need more than one thing.

Anyway: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/...367/combustion

But maybe we should just await the starter fluid challenge.
Before this gets carried away, I (found a GIF that had to go somewhere)...

Actually, just one thing: A lot of money.

Everything else depends on that.

Roler, as someone whose wife introduced him to cats a long time ago, I love that little video....

In any event, you can't have compression in the first place without air (or some other gas).

One thing I don't think anyone has asked is what is the pressure at the rail?

Probably the first thing we tend to think about in a case like this is the CPS, but the OP has replaced that and has a good spark.

If gas is getting to the cylinders, we would expect to have some evidence after extended cranking, probably odor out the tailpipe and fouled plugs. Don't know if OP has pulled a plug after cranking to check this.

What my father-in-law used to call "fun, fun, fun"...

OP, tried the starter fluid yet?

Sorry, it’s been a while but here is my update

I replaced the spark wires (because some broke removing them),
Replaced spark plugs
Replace distributor cap
Replace rotor

I sprayed starter fluid in the air intake and after two attempts and a lot of pumping on the gas peddle…..it started! I let it warm up then I revved it several times, and it sounded good, so I took it for a test drive. I got two blocks away….and stalled!

This makes me think its fuel related….. anyone disagree?

Replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator…still no start.

I checked the resistance with my meter. Chiltons says the ohms should be between 2 and 6. All of my injectors read 14.2. I think I had my meter on the wrong setting. But since they are all reading the same amount, I am inclined to believe they are all good. What are the chances they are all bad?

Jay.
