Not to distract from this excellent company, just wanted to mention that there MIGHT? be wires to a second "post cat" 02 sensor on that 96? Idk, but if there IS a post cat 02...those wires back to there..plenty of places to ground.

I only mention that cuz you said "It", and there are two 02 sensors, I think.

Right. 96 has both pre and post cat O2 sensors.

Yea, I think it was Freedgr put me on to that. That long wire back there to the 02 heater? shorts, blows the ASD fuse. I got no auto shut down,,nothing post cat, guess I'm OK with that!

Thanks, there are 2 and they're both in good shape I just had to replace them about 6 months ago.

Stupid thing runs right near the hot exhaust, which makes the insulation crack and fall off. Mine did it when my floors rotted out. Nothing left to attach the wiring to so it dropped right onto the cat.

All good! I do mean the wires though. If one of those back there is rubbing, buffeted by wind or chafing/getting pinched somewhere it might maybe wear through the insulation and touch metal.

This is over my head...I might go knock it around, (those wires back there), and see if it still pops the fuse though.

I found a bunch of burned wires on the side of the engine! I'm splicing them all back together, ill let you all know how it it comes out.

I should, I'm always working on it! But then again it is a Jeep and your supposed to work on them.
