No shift/Rough Idle/Backfire
Soooo I'll start in the order that everything happened...
'89 XJ runs fine 213k miles
One morning I shifted into power mode for about a minute to dick around before work, that afternoon it had a high idle speed and then on the way home wasn't shifting right, I would have to let off the gas to get it to shift, eventually it wouldn't shift at all and I could only go about 20 mph. I thought it was the TPS so I tested it by flooring it to see if it would shift at high RPM, it did a few times then something blew and jeep just died. Sent it to the shop and they said Distributor blew up which it did, I saw it. They replaced it and said they'd take a look at the shifting issue for me. Claimed it wasn't shifting and has to be the transmission. Then as I'm on my way to pick it up they call and say they're gonna try one more thing, long story short it's not the transmission, but now it has a very rough idle and choppy idle speed, backfires like an old jalopy and only shifts of I drive it like I'm in fast and furious, if I drive normal it's spudder and shake at about 10mph. They said check the coil and then the computer. What's y'alls input on the issue? Also this is my daily driver....
Sorry for the long post, but I'm stressed and at a loss right now

Since you appear to be fairly handy yourself, I would suggest going to www.cruiser54.com and doing Tips 1 through 5 as soon as you can.

New distributor
Fairly new Coil Pack
Spark plugs
Alternator
Fuel injectors
I'm thinking its a connection somewhere, when the distributor blew the mount broke and it shorted somewhere (when I touch the cable to the post it melted the post up a bit.)
So my guess is it's a small hard to reach component that got fried...just can't find it.
