Just cover the ignition coil and the distributor with a plastic bag and you're fine.

Oh, I wanted to know if there is some way I can check if the TCU is getting the power it needs? I mean, is there anything like that in the fuse box related to the TCU, any relay or something? and duh, where is the fusebox? :s

Oh well, a bit of a mess I'm in I suppose.
This time, the question is about the solenoids, that I had checked ONLY the resistance of the solenoid, I didn't give it 12 volts and check if the plunger works or not. So could it be that my solenoid no. 1 isn't working? Because, yesterday I was checking the jeep with tcu unplugged.. shorted the D16 with C15 and C16.. It never shifted into 1st or 2nd gear in D.. 3rd and fourth only.. which leads me to believe that solenoid 1 isn't working properly..

One more thing though, when the TCU is connected, and in 1-2 position, it shifts to 2 at about 5000 RPM. Why does it shift it to 2nd gear IF the solenoid isn't working? Or its something related to some mechanical thing going on in there?

When I short the D16 with c16, there is a little spark but nothing happens.. when I short D16 with C15, same little spark and it shifts to 3rd gear from 4rth! Of course the shifter is in D all times.

you need ether a new tcu or a speed sensor
can you barrow a tcu from a friend to see if it works

Oh.. well.. no Cherokees are REALLY rare here.. Though I can find the used parts, but will have to BUY them to check.. I will see what I can do..

But, my question remains, that wouldn't the solenoids work without the TCU connected? When I provide them the +12V? They should work, shouldn't they? I mean, when I am powering the solenoids, they should engage what ever the speed I'm at and w/e :S

Yes, unless the plunger is stuck.
Did u find the fuse box? It's either under the steering wheel on the left, or in the engine compartment.

Hmm.. there is one under the steering wheel.. The thing, it has nothing marked on it as in what fuse does what. So where to get that information, the wiring diagrams in the service manual are a bit too complicated for me

On the manual there should be a picture with the fuse box and the fuse table, look in your user booklet too.

So. I have another question:

If I short C14 with D16.. I would be giving power to the TCC solenoid, what should happen? And what should be the position of the gear shifter when I short it? I just want to check the solenoid if it is working or not.

its the solenoid for the torque convertor lockup. and also how should I be checking it? Drive the jeep at sufficient speed in 4rth gear at constant RPMs and short the C14 with D16 and observe the RPMs drop? Or is there any other 'peaceful' way? :P

it should lock the converter
keep it in drive
and power the solenoids according the the switch lay out to shift to that gear

Should I be driving the Jeep or not? Would it be fine for the TC to lock up when in D and not being driven?

no you wont be able to stop cus the tc wont slip it would be like stopping a car with a clutch and not using the clutch the engine would die at a stop sign
