my TPS can be adjusted? I have heard that the TPS cannot be adjusted in the models after 91 or 92? Two way TPS? I have to check the +ve lead into the center terminal, right? And I also checked it moving smoothly, it doesn't give a blank reading or goto 0 at almost any point, the voltage rises up smoothly! I will check this again in the morning.. and also check that if the input is 5 volts or not.

Oh and thats very generous of you.

And don't mind, but, in the manual it was written:

"THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS)
To perform a complete test of the TPS (Fig. 37) and
its circuitry, refer to the DRB scan tool and appropriate
Powertrain Diagnostics Procedures manual. To
test the TPS only, refer to the following:
The TPS can be tested with a digital voltmeter.
The center terminal of the TPS is the output terminal.
With the ignition key in the ON position, check the
TPS output voltage at the center terminal wire of the
connector. Check this at idle (throttle plate closed)
and at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). At idle, TPS output
voltage should be greater than .26 volts but less
than .95 volts. At wide open throttle, TPS output
voltage must be less than 4.49 volts. The output voltage
should increase gradually as the throttle plate is
slowly opened from idle to WOT."

I should run and bang into some wall..

Sorry, you're a '96, i forgot. No adjustment. lol!
Well the procedure i told u remains the same.

It says that: "The output voltage
should increase gradually as the throttle plate is
slowly opened from idle to WOT."
Be sure u don't get blank readings.

Okay, I will check that in the morning, what after that?

Oh and I forgot to mention something REALLY important! The JEEP starts in ANY GEAR and GETS GOING! It used to do this when we got it.. then I forgot about it, cause it never really happened to me again, that I put the lever in R instead of P and **** like that. Today that happened again, it was in D..when I shut it off, I started it again but forgot that it was in D, it started right up get going!, I checked again, same thing in reverse, 3, 1-2 or D!

It shouldn't start the engine up in any gear except PARK and NEUTRAL, right? It does. It starts up no matter the gear lever position is, and gets going according to that. if the lever is in 'D', it will start up and move forward. if it is in 'R', it will start up and go backwards.

has any one suggested unplugging the TCU
you will be able to shift manually and if it stays in gear that way its a bad TCU
if not its a mechanical problem

Hmm.. Stays in what gear? Should I check in D or what?
I will check that in the morning when I get the exhaust piping back on or the neighbors would kill me. What happened today was, there is a office in my street, lot of cars were parked outside.. I revved the jeep hard when passing by.. almost all of the cars started alarming.. haha..

Seems that somebody bypassed your NSS probably because it wasn't working.

oh that somebody is surely the PO.

And what about the TCU, should the tranny engage 1st gear in 'D' without the TCU?
And could it be the NSS thats messing the shifting up? or not?

Yes mike37 is right, the aw4 is mechanically operated, the tcu provides only 1-2-3-OD shifting, with the tcu unplugged it will stay in 1st.
