Default No Power. Please help!

I have a 99 XJ. Last week I got stuck in a mud hole, and I sat there and waited for my friend to pull me out. The Jeep was only submerged up to the fender wells on the passenger side. After I got out of the trails the Jeep was running strange like it had no power. It runs fine, not missing. When I downshift there is no power, also it's an auto trans. Distributer cap isn't wet, cat does not appear to clogged. I'm not sure what else to do. Anyone have any ideas??

Pull out your trans dip stick and see if it looks light pink. Trans fluid should be bright red. If it looks pink you probably got water into your transmission. That would cause the trans to slip and feel like you have no power.

Any Check engine light? Check codes if so.

Did you leave it running or kill it? If you killed it you mighta sucked some water in they the exhaust.

Also you cant tell if the dist cap is wet unless u pull it off. Pull it off and look inside, any water at all will cause issues. Though its usually runability issues and causes misfires like crazy.

I checked the tranny fluid, and it was all good. It's shifting fine, just when I wanna downshift to gain more speed on the hwy it just don't have any power.

No misfire at all! I'm about to pull the cap in spray some WD in there.

I left the Jeep running while in the mud hole in fear of water getting in the exhaust.

Thanx for all the info. It ended up being a wasted CAT. Problem solved.

Thanks for letting us know. At least we have a closed thread for a change.
